Fulvous Whistling Duck Dendrocygna bicolor (1)
(1) Asturies The bird found at Nora reservoir, San Pedro de Nora on 26.3 was seen again on 9.4 (Clemente Alvarez Usategui) and on 19.4 (Manuel Fernández Pajuelo y Clemente Alvarez Usategui)

American Wigeon Anas americana (1)
Lugo There was a drake at laguna de Cospeito, Lugo on 15.4 (José Miguel Alonso)

American Black Duck Anas rubripes (1)
(1) Lugo.The Pepiño American Black duck was at Ría de Foz on 1.4 with one of its presumed hybrid offsprings (Quique Carballal y Clemente Alvarez Usategui). Seen also on 2.4 (Daniel López Velasco y Manuel Quintana Becerra)

Blue-winged Teal Anas discors (1)

(1) Lugo. The drake found at Lago, Xove, Lugo on 25.12.2009 was still there
on 1.4.2010 (Quique Carballal y Clemente Alvarez Usategui) and 2.4 (Daniel López Velasco y Manuel Quintana Becerra).

Ring-necked Duck Aythya collaris (1-3,4)
(1) León A group of two females and a drake
were at laguna de Sentiz, Valdepolo, León, on 1.4 (Héctor Astiárraga, Soraya de Elera). See a photo below and a thumbnail here. The trio remained there on 4.4. (Vicente Zumel)

(4) A Coruña A drake was at Cecebre reservoir, A Coruña, on 5.4 (Alfredo Álvarez)


Western Reef Egret Egretta gularis (1)
(1) Girona. At last, after a good bunch of years without any claim of a pure bird, an individual was seen and photographed at PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà, Girona on 15.4 (Fran Trabalón; Alex Ollé). It was still in the area but at Europa lagoon on 17.4 (Guillermo Rodríguez, Àlex Ollé, Martí Rodríguez, Teresa Montràs, Albert Cama i Jordi Martí-Aledo) and 18.4 (Gerard Dalmau).

Presumed Hybrid Western Reef x Little Egret Egretta gularis x garzetta (1,2)
(1) Girona. A bird was at El Cortalet lagoon, Aiguamolls de l'Empordà Natural Park on 4.4 (Joan Ramon Sanz, Jorge García, Mireia Jiménez, Laura Font, Jordi Martí-Aledo, Ignasi Batet, Enric Capalleras i Albert Campsolinas; Joan Ventura).See a photo below (Joan Ventura Linares)

(3) Tarragona. The presumed hybrid that frequents the Tancada saltpans, at Ebre delta, where it is seen intermitently, was seen again during holy week 9-11.4 (Ricardo Rodríguez). See a photo in his blog here.

Lesser Flamingo Phoenicopterus minor (1-2,3,4-5)
Ciudad Real There were two birds at laguna de la Veguilla, Alcázar de San Juan, Ciudad Real on 3.4 (Ángel González). See a photo below.

(3) Tarragona. One individual was found at Punta de la Banya Nature Reserve, Ebro delta Natural Park, Tarragona on 4.4 (Carles Domingo) and on 18.4 (Manolo García-Tarrasón). Moved to Tancada lagoon on 22.4 (comm. to Jordi Martí-Aledo)

(4-5) Cádiz. On 16.4 there were two at Salinas de los Portugueses, Espacio Natural Doñana, Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Cádiz (José Luis Arroyo). See a photo below. One of these birds had been seen the previous day, 15.4 at the other side of the river at Veta la Palma, Espacio Natural Doñana, La Puebla del Río, Sevilla (Rubén Rodríguez). These two are part of the group of four reported previously in the area. Also perhaps one of these birds or another was the ringed ESCAPED BIRD with red ring AS seen at Salinas de Bonanza, Cádiz, on 13.4 (José Luis Anguita). This bird is a known escape coming from Belgium seen previously in other parts of the country. See a photo below (J.L.Anguita)

Pallid Harrier Circus macrourus (1,2,3)
(1) Illes Balears There was a female at Albercutx, Mallorca, on 10.4 (Pep Manchado, Rafel Mas, Adolfo Ferrero, Juanjo Bazán, Lalo Ventoso). See four thumbnails here (Juanjo Bazán)

(2) Asturies On 18.4 a 2nd calendar year male bird was found at valle de Tamón, Carreño, Asturies (Daniel López Velasco,Jose  Menendez Guerra y Pablo Fernandez Miranda). Seen later in the day too (Clemente A. Usategui, Manuel Quintana). See two thumbnails here. And on 19.4 as well (Nacho Castelao, Manuel Quintana, Clemente A Usategui, Xuan Cortés, Nacho Vega, Jose Antonio Garcia, Elías Garcia, Pablo Fernandez Perez, Pedro J Menendez, Laure y Yoli). First for Asturies.

(3) Asturies On 23.4 there was a 2cy female at Cabu Peñes, Asturies (Daniel López Velasco)

Greater Spotted Eagle Aquila clanga (1)
(1) Alicante The Estonian eagle Tõnn was seen again at El Hondo on 1-3.4 (Graham Critchell) but it left north that same day (Urmas Sellis). Follow its migration through this page or learn more in the Rarebirdspain blog here.

Sociable Plover Vanellus gregarius (1)
(1) Valladolid On 6.4 a bird was found at Boecillo, Valladolid, within a group of Lapwings (José A. García Alfonso). On 7.4 it was seen again and photographed (Juan Sagardía, Juan Matute). See two photos below and more in Juan Sagardia's blog here.The bird was seen again on 10.4 (Juan Sagardía, Miguel Rouco, Jose Ramón Martín, Mireia Herranz, Oscar Llama,José Pedro Portillo) and 11.4 (Juan Sagardia). Still there on 13.4 (Juan Sagardía) and 17.4 (Jus Pérez).

(1) Tarragona On 23.4 one was found within Punta de la Banya reserve, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona (Jordi Martí-Aledo). Seen later and photographed (Manolo García-Tarrasón). See photos below and thumbnails here.

Red-necked Phalarope Phalaropus lobatus (1,2)
(1) Tarragona On 7.4 a bird was found at Punta de la Banya, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona (Jordi Martí-Aledo). On 8.4 it was seen again again (Jordi Martí-Aledo; Manolo García-Tarrasón). Franklin's Gull Larus pipixcan (1)
(1) Valencia On 6.4 an adult of this species was found at Quart de Poblet dump, València within a 3000 L.ridibundus and 50 L.melanocephalus group (Javier Marchamalo). On 7.4 it was seen again and photographed in the dump (J.Marchamalo) and later in the afternoon at the Turia river (Bosco Dies). (1) Pontevedra The same individual reported from June 2009 at the ría de Vigo and seen again in 2010 was seen again on 16.4 at southern Vigo beaches (Xulio Valeiras)

Glaucous Gull Larus hyperboreus (1)
(1) A Coruña There was a 1st winter (2nd calendar-year) bird at Cariño harbour on 10.4 (Luz Fernández Miraz, Antonio Fernández Marín, Sara Calleja Pérez, María Pérez Díaz y David Calleja Marcos). It's the same bird seen last month in the area.

(1) Barcelona A bird was seen at Llobregat delta on 24.4 (Ferran López).
(2) Barcelona A bird was seen at Besós river mouth on 26.4 (Xavier Larruy).

Yellow-headed Yellow Wagtail Motacilla flava lutea (1) FIRST FOR SPAIN
(1) Málaga A bird identified also as Citrine Wagtail was reported from Fuentedepiedra lagoon, Málaga on 13.4 (Peter Jones).

(1) Girona One 2nd calendar year male was found on 10.4 at El Matà, PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà, Girona (Lionel Maumary). The author showed the bird to several local observers who saw the bird briefly.See a photo below (L.Maumary).

Illes Balears An adult male was trapped and ringed at Cabrera island, Balearics, on 18.4 (Eduardo Amengual, via mobile phone, David Cuenca).See a photo below (E.Amengual / D.Cuenca). The bird remained in the island on 21.4 (Eduardo Amengual). See two more photos below (D.Cuenca)

Eastern Bonelli's Warbler Phylloscopus orientalis (1) FIRST FOR SPAIN
Barcelona An individual was trapped and ringed at Remolar-Filipines reserve, Llobregat Delta, Barcelona on 17.4 (Joan Castelló; Armand Ramal, Pedro Bescós). See a photo below (Joan Castelló). The bird was latter heard in the reserve (Joan Castelló). It was seen again in the wild on 18.4 (Marcel Gil).

Little Bunting Emberiza pusilla (1,2)
(1) Pontevedra One summer plumaged adult was observed during several minutes at short range (6 m) within the dune system including some reedbeds at southern A Lanzada isthmus, O Grove, Pontevedra on 4.4 (Emilio Martínez Sabarís).

(2) Pontevedra One was seen on 11.4 at Monteagudo, Cies islands, Pontevedra (Emilio Solla Pazo).

Otherwise, non submitted or rejected records will be deleted and ringings will not be included in national or international databases. Ringers not submitting rare bird ringings will be listed. Submitting ringing records is hence specially encouraged as a contribution to global bird knowledge..

From March 2005 this webpage only includes records of birds needing homologation by CR/SEO. For other local rarities contact local bird reports or records committees. See here those rarities only for the Canary Islands also dealt by CR/SEO. Changes in application to the rarity list from January 2006. New rarities include Sylvia curruca, Crex crex, Sterna bengalensis and others. Larus delawarensis and Anthus richardi have been withdrawn from the rarity list and are not be included from 2006.

Recent reports includes the latest sightings from the whole of Spain which are both personal observations, communications or have been released in E-Mail lists. Please contact the authors before using any photo for anything else than personal reference. Any submitted news to this page will be forwarded to the Spanish RC for their knowledge if enough substantiated but inclusion in this page does not imply acceptance or homologation of any kind which needs a form to be sent. Gibraltar news are included thanks to Gibraltar Ornithological & Natural History Society but this has no more implication than the sake of completeness given this area situation. Names of localities are featured as given by the authors of the records, that should be cited as those. Today news are marked with anew icon. We would welcome to receive a spare copy of those journals using these news for commercial purposes. Contact RG at address at the front page. From April 2005 only news of rarities needing homologation by the Spanish Rarities Committee are included.
