(1-2) Girona The birds seen last month around Estany d'en Turies, PN Aiguamolls Empordà, Girona moved to nearby Estany d'Europa on 5.2 (Guillem Saguer at The birds remained around the area on 11.2, when seen at Prats de Can Túries (Jorge García via and also the whole following week (at least until 18.12, Joan Estrada, Montse Jofra, Víctor Estrada, Jordi Martí-Aledo, see website). According to ICO, one of the swans was ringed in Russia and ringing recovery is as follows: RUM AA2104 T 3F 11.08.11 Kashin Island, Korovinskaya Gulf, Nenètsia, RÚSSIA 68º15'N 53º58'E ov 09.01.12 El Cortalet, Castelló d'Empúries (Girona) 42º11'N 3º05'E, 4.135 km SW, 151 days.These birds left on 19.2 and were not present in the area the following week (Jordi Martí-Aledo

(2-3) Palencia There were 2 at the La Nava lagoon, Palencia on 11.2: one at La Nava and another near Pedraza lagoon (Xurxo Piñeiro, Juan Sagardía). On 21.2 one (or perhaps two) birds were seen (José Ardaiz, Javier Sola). See a photo of one of the birds below (J.Ardaiz)

Cantabria There remained two individuals at estuario del Asón, PN Marismas de Santoña, Victoria y Joyel, Cantabria on 4.2 (Alejandro García Herrera)

(1) Palencia The bird seen last month was at Cantarranas, near El Corralillo
hide, within La Nava area, Palencia, on 4.2 (Luis Mario Arce, José Pedro Portillo). It was seen again at La Nava on 11.2 (Juan Sagardía, Xurxo Piñeiro) and on 21.2 (José Ardaiz, Javier Sola).

(1) Murcia The bird seen last month in the muddy areas between La Manga del Mar Menor and las salinas de San Pedro del Pinatar, Murcia was seen again at Veneziola on 8.2.2012 (Richard Howard). (3) Lleida - Huesca The ♂ seen from November 2011 at Pantà de Camelis, Torres de Segre, Lleida was seen on 19.2.2012 at Pantà de Mas Blanc, Huesca (Robert Manzano,Marc Illa). On 22.2 it moved back to Camelis Pond, Torres de Segre, Lleida (Marc Gàlvez, José Guerra)

(1) Pontevedra The 1w ♂ seen at Combarro, ría de Pontevedra last month with a flock of Common Scoters was seen again on 5.2 between playa de Lourido and Isla de Tambo, within the same Ría de Pontevedra, Poio council. It was in company of 13 Common Scoters (Alvaro Rodríguez Pomares).See a photo below. The bird was still ther eon 8.2 (Encarna González). On 18.2 it was seen again from Puerto de Campelo, Ría de Pontevedra (Stefan Aki Ragnarsson). On 23.2.2012 it remained at Intermareal Combarro-Lourido, ria de Pontevedra, Galicia (Encarna González) where it was seen again on 25.2 (Encarna Gonzalez, Gustavo Ferreiro, Graciela Fernandez, Oscar Llama, Jose Portillo, Jose Gomez, Juan Sagardia y Alfonso Rodrigo)

(1) Barcelona There was a ♀type bird at La Vidala part of Remolar lagoon, Viladecans, Delta del Llobregat, Barcelona on 16.2 (Raúl Bastida; Ferran López) but not on 17.2.

(2-4) Cantabria There were 3 ♀type birds on 18.2 at Raos, Cantabria (Antonio Sanz, Jose Maroñas, César Bermejo y Javier Portillo). See a photo below (J.Portillo). These birds remained into 19.2 (Jose Portillo, Ana Mº Montoya Oscar Llama y Jesús Menéndez). (1) Alicante. On 30.1 there Estonian Greater Spotted Eagle Tonn remained at El Hondo, Alicante and presumably it continued there into Februrary. Check its latest location here where it's mentioned until 9.2

(2-4) Alicante. On 11.2 at least there were two birds, perhaps up to 4 individuals, including Tonn, at El Hondo (Miguel Ángel Andrés, Virginia Sánchez, Virginia de la Torre, Mar Labrador, María Llorente y Álvaro Díaz).On 20.2 one immature (not known which) was seen at El Hondo (Manuel Quintana Becerra, Conchi Ovín Ania)

(1) Gibraltar. There was an adult over Windmill Hill on 25.2 and 27.2 (Vincent Robba/GONHS)

The bird seen these months at Perlora, Carreño, Asturies remained there on 1.2.2012 when some spots begun to be visible on bird's undeparts (Luis Mario Arce, María Jesús Mangas y Aránzazu González Escudero / SEO-Asturias). (1) A Coruña The adult bird found on 28.12.2011 at Lires, Fisterra, A Coruña was still at the Lires beach on 22.2 (Fernando Pereiras) and 25.2 (Graciela Fernandez, Oscar Llama, Jose Portillo, Jose Gomez, Juan Sagardia, Pablo Fernandez, Daniel L. Velasco y Alfonso Rodrigo).

(3) A Coruña On 5.2 there was a 1w at Playa de Anguieiro, near Vixián lagoon, Ribeira, A Coruña (Stefan Aki Ragnarsson)

(4-5) Cantabria On 1.2.2012 there were 3 ind (1 1w+ 2 2w)at Santander bay, Cantabria, perhaps one was bird (2) (Fernando Arce)

(6) Bizkaia On 5.2 there was one bird at Urumea river, Donostia-San Sebastián, Guipuzkoa (Jesús Serradilla).

(7) Bizkaia On 11.2 a 2w was at Lamiako pier, Leioa, Bizkaia (Iván Sarabia). See a photo below (I.Sarabia).

(8) Pontevedra The resident Iceland Gull at A Calzoa beach, Vigo, that has frequented the area for the last three years in-a-row was almost killed by a dog on 11.2 and it had certainly died if a couple of birdwatchers in the area had not run towards the dog, who left the bird (Julio Eiroa, Salva Moreira). The bird more or less seemed not too much affected by the attack. See a thumbnail here.

(10-11) A Coruña On 19.2 two birds were seen off Vilán cape, Camariñas, A Coruña. One was an adult and the other nearby so (Antonio Sandoval).

(12) A Coruña On 19.2 there was a 2nd w at Traba beach, Laxe, A Coruña (Atocha Ramos, Cosme-Damián Romai).

(1-3) Cádiz. On 4.2.2012 there were 3 individuals flying over Chipiona, Cádiz (Manuel Jiménez y Rafa García)

(4-7) Cádiz. On 8.2 there were 4 individuals at Puerto de Barbate, Cádiz (Stephen Daly/Andalucian Bird Guides)

(8-13) Cádiz. On 10.2 there were six birds at Sierra de Retin, near to Zahara de los Atunes, Cádiz (Stephen Daly/Andalucian Bird Guides)

(14-16) Cádiz. On 11.2 there were 3 over Laguna de Tarelo, Cádiz (Norbert Röder)

(17) Almería. There was one on 20.2 over Rambla Morales, Cabo de Gata, Almería (Ian Wright)

Desert Wheatear Oenanthe deserti (1,2)

(1) Almería. The bird found on 13.12.2011 at Salazón, P.N. de Cabo de Gata, Almería remained there on 4-5.2.2012 (Oscar Llama; Xurxo Piñeiro, Jose Portillo y MªJosé Valencia). The bird remained there on 18.2 (Eugenia Llamas, Magdalena García, Ricardo Martín-Baylo y Fernando del Valle ).

n(2)Zaragoza. The individual seen last autumn at Laguna salada de la playa, Sástago, Zaragoza was seen again there on 26.2.2012 which constitutes an evidence of overwintering (Javier Ruiz, Carlos Díez y Luis Gracia).See a photo and video below.

(1) Fuerteventura. A bird seen last December at Costa Calma, Fuerteventura has overwintered there and was seen again on 17.2 (David Walsh).

(2) Gibraltar. On 14.2.2012 it was found one overwintering at Mount garden, Gibraltar. Now discovered that has been there for two weeks at least (C. Perez/ K. Bensusan - GONHS)

Hume's Leaf Warbler Phylloscopus humei (1) THIRD FOR SPAIN

(1) Lugo The bird identified at Os Galos, Ribadeo, Lugo on 13.1 remained in the same area in early February: 2.2 and 4.2 too (Pablo Fernández García).

From March 2005 this webpage only includes records of birds needing homologation by CR/SEO. For other local rarities contact local bird reports or records committees. See here those rarities only for the Canary Islands also dealt by CR/SEO. Changes in application to the rarity list from January 2006. New rarities include Sylvia curruca, Crex crex, Sterna bengalensis and others. Larus delawarensis and Anthus richardi have been withdrawn from the rarity list and are not be included from 2006.
