(1) Barcelona A bird was found at Cal Tet lagoon, El Prat de Llobregat, Llobregat delta, Barcelona on 30.6 (Ferran López)

(1) A Coruña. A bird was seen off Estaca de Bares, Galicia on 3.6 ( Antonio Sandoval, Antonio Fernández Pernas).

(1) Girona. A bird was seen near the shore at Santa Margarida coast, Roses, Girona (Toni Ibáñez, Romà Simó via

Western Reef Egret Egretta gularis gularis (1)
(1) Valencia. Perhaps the same bird found on 26.5 at El Brosquil ricefields, Cullera, València moved to Sollana ricefields, Albufera de València, on 8.6 (Sergio Mayordomo). See a thumbnail here.

Presumed Hybrid Western Reef x Little Egret Egretta gularis x garzetta (1,2,3)
(1) Cádiz. On 2.6 a presumed hybrid, very dark and resembling a pure individual, was identified as such at Chipiona coast, Cádiz (Rafael García Costales, Manuel Jiménez, José Manuel Franco) See Rafa's blog for more information and photos below.

(2) Sevilla. On 15.6 one individual (see two photos below and a thumbnail here) was found at Isla menor ricefields, La Puebla del Río, Sevilla (José Luís Arroyo).

(3) Alicante. On 28.6 there was one individual at Torre del Tamarit, Parque Natural de las Salinas de Santa Pola, Alicante (Cristian Pérez-Granados y Eva Serrano-Davies)

Long-legged Buzzard Buteo rufinus (1,2)
(1) Cádiz. A bird was found injured on 29.5 at Malabrigo, A -2201, Jerez de la Frontera, Cádiz (Íñigo Sánchez, Isabel Molina y Rafa García Costales). The injured bird did not survive despite taken into care and died on 5.6 (see a photo below, R.García)

(2) Huesca. A subadult bird moulting primaries and tail was seen at Balsalet de Don Juan, Ballobar, Huesca on 9.6 (Cristian Jensen, Jaume Soler et al/Audouin Birding Tours). See three thumbnails here (Cristian Jensen)

Iceland Gull Larus glaucoides (1,2)
(1) A Coruña On 7.6 a worn individual was seen at Cariño harbour, A Coruña (Ricardo Hevia). See a thumbnail here.
This same individual was seen again on 13.6 at Covas beach, Viveiro, Lugo (Ricardo Hevia)

(2) A Coruña On 9.6 a 2nd calendar year was seen at Esmelle, Ferrol, A Coruña (Francisco Girón). Later in the afternoon it was photographed (Antonio Gutiérrez), see below.

Lesser-crested Tern Sterna bengalensis (1)
(1) Barcelona. One bird showing typical characters of the species was seen at Llobregat river mouth, Llobregat delta, Barcelona, on 11.6 (Ferran López).

Little Swift Apus affinis (1-18)
(1-18) Cádiz. There were different observations of birds around Chipiona harbour, Cádiz on late June, up to a maximum of 18 birds: 10.06, 4 ind; 12.6, 10 ind; 15.6, 12 ind; 17.06, 12 ind; 20.6, 5 ind; 29.6, 15 individuals (Antonio Acedo). See a photo below (A.Acedo). On 29.6 there were 18 individuals (Paco Chiclana, Fermando del Valle y Mario Martín)

*** Ringed birds in Spain have to be submitted and accepted by CR/SEO-BirdLife, according to Environment Ministery of Spain and the authonomous communities agreements, to be accepted as valid ringings in the national database. Otherwise, non submitted or rejected records will be deleted and ringings will not be included in national or international databases. Ringers not submitting rare bird ringings will be listed. Submitting ringing records is hence specially encouraged as a contribution to global bird knowledge..

From March 2005 this webpage only includes records of birds needing homologation by CR/SEO. For other local rarities contact local bird reports or records committees. See here those rarities only for the Canary Islands also dealt by CR/SEO. Changes in application to the rarity list from January 2006. New rarities include Sylvia curruca, Crex crex, Sterna bengalensis and others. Larus delawarensis and Anthus richardi have been withdrawn from the rarity list and are not be included from 2006.

Recent reports includes the latest sightings from the whole of Spain which are both personal observations, communications or have been released in E-Mail lists. Please contact the authors before using any photo for anything else than personal reference. Any submitted news to this page will be forwarded to the Spanish RC for their knowledge if enough substantiated but inclusion in this page does not imply acceptance or homologation of any kind which needs a form to be sent.Photos could be cropped for editorial reasons.Gibraltar news are included thanks to Gibraltar Ornithological & Natural History Society but this has no more implication than the sake of completeness given this area situation. Names of localities are featured as given by the authors of the records, that should be cited as those. Today news are marked with anew icon.
