Blue-winged Teal Anas discors (1)

(1) Sevilla. There was a male at Brazo del Este, Puebla del Río, Sevilla on 13.8 (Paco Chiclana)


Madeira-Cape Verde's Petrel Pterodroma feae/madeira (1,2,3)
(1) A Coruña. One was seen on 19.8 from Estaca de Bares headland, A Coruña (Ricardo Hevia, Antonio Martínez Pernas, Maarten Plaateuw, Antonio Sandoval, Alfonso Valderas). Now you can follow all Estaca sightings from their brand new website here.

(2) A Coruña. One was seen on 24.8 from Estaca de Bares headland, A Coruña (Enrique Carballal, Ricardo Hevia, Antonio Gutierrez, Pablo Gutierrez, Guillermo Lasaro, Daniel Lopez Velasco, David Martinez Lago, Antonio Martinez Pernas, Pablo Pita, Cosme Damian Romay, Antonio Sandoval, Alfonso Valderas).

n(3) Lanzarote. On 27.8 a Fea's petrel (feae) was seen 55 miles NE of Lanzarote (Lanzarote Pelagics). See two thumbnails here (Tony Blunden)

(1) Lanzarote - Gran Canaria. On 13.8 a bird was reported between Lanzarote and Gran Canaria islands, from the ferry (Graham Hogan)

White Pelican Pelecanus onocrotalus (1)

(1) Girona. There was a bird flying over Figueres, Girona, on 31.8 (Miguel Angel Fuentes). See photos at here.

Presumed hybrid Western Reef x Little Egret Egretta gularis x garzetta (1,2)

(1)Barcelona. The bird seen in previous months near can Dimoni, Llobregat delta, Barcelona, was relocated at the same place, at Riera Roja on 1.8 (Raúl Bastida).The bird remained in a nearby area on 8.8 (Raúl Bastida). It was seen again on 21.8 this time at Bassa dels Pollancres, RN Remolar -Filipines, Llobregat delta (Ferran López).

Striated Heron Butorides striata (1)
(1)Granada. A moulting bird, perhaps a 2cy, was seen at Charca de Suárez, Motril, Granada, on 5.8 (Rafa Mateos Ferrera). Record submitted to CR/SEO-BirdLife. The bird was in active moult and was photographed again at the same site on 6.8 (Rafa Mateos). A 2nd photo was then submitted to the Rarities Committee where it became clear that the bird had a ring in its left tibia, clearly obscuring the possibility of becoming a 1st for Spain. Rüppell's Vulture Gyps rueppellii (1,2,3)
(1) Cádiz. On 22.8, there was an immature at Cazalla, Tarifa, Cádiz (Yeray Seminario/Whitehawk). See a photo below.

(2) Cádiz. On 29.8 there was an immature, with different wing pattern (not so broken) as above, at Rio de la miel path, Parque Natural de los Alcornocales, Tarifa, Cádiz (Xesco Macià y Karen Munté).

(3) Badajoz. On 21.8.2013 one was seen at Magacela, Badajoz (Justo Manuel García López).

Long-legged Buzzard Buteo rufinus(1)
(1) Cádiz. On 5.8, a bird was seen flying over Tarifa, Cádiz (Yeray Seminario, Alex Justo)

Lesser-Spotted Eagle Aquila pomarina (1)
(1) Cádiz. On 16.8, a bird was seen at Cazalla, Tarifa, Cádiz (Alejandro Onrubia)

Lanner Falco biarmicus (1,2)
(1) Cádiz. On 6.8, a juvenile individual was seen at Cazalla, Tarifa, Cádiz (Álex Colorado)

(2) Albacete. On 31.8 one was photographed at Llano de Riachuelos, Albacete (David Cañizares). See two thumbnails here.

Pacific Golden Plover Pluvialis fulva (1) 10TH FOR SPAIN
(1) Tarragona. On 28.8 an adult was found at grassfields near Migjorn, Sant Jaume d'Enveja, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona (Jordi Martí-Áledo). See a photo below. Given the rarity of the species in Spain, news attracted many observers and the bird remained the following days in the area: 28.8 (Gorka Gorospe, Aimar Gorospe, Onintza Gorospe; Sergi Sales), 29.8 (Eugeni Capella et al), 30.8 (Josep Tantull, Roser Solé), 31.8 (Josep Tantull, Roser Solé, Matxalen Pauly, Albert Cama, Gabriel De Jesús, Pau Garcia, Quim Martínez, Nacho Castelao, Jordi Martí-Aledo, José Ramón Martín) and into September 2013.

Semipalmated Sandpiper Calidris pusilla (1)

(1) A Coruña . On 27.8 a juvenile reached A Frouxeira, Valdoviño, A Coruña (Xabi Prieto, Pepe Vidal, David Calleja, Antonio Gutiérrez y Pablo Gutiérrez). It was in the area since 20.8 (Pablo Pita y Pablo Gutierrez) but its identification could not be confirmed until 27.8. See photos in Travelling Birds blog from Pablo Gutiérrez here. It remained there on 29.8 (See a photo below, Pablo Gutiérrez, and more in his blog) and stayed in the area into september 2013.

(1) Valencia . There was an adult at Tancat de Milia, Sollana, Albufera de Valencia on 7.8 (Toni Alcocer). 1st of the season. See a photo below.

(2) Girona . There was a juvenile, 1st of the season, at El Matà, PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà. Girona, from 21-22.8 (Àlex Ollé), 23.8 (Àlex Ollé, Pau García, Eikel Delgado, David Ibáñez, Anna Bassols), 24.8 (Albert Campsolinas; Ponç Feliu, Gerard Carbonell) And on 25.8 (Àlex Ollé, Marc Gàlvez, Jorge García, Funoses brothers et al). (3) Valencia . There was a juvenile at El Tremolar, Alfafar, l'Albufera de València on 29.8 (Bosco Dies)

Broad-billed Sandpiper Limicola falcinellus (1,2)

(1) Tarragona . The adult at El violí ricefields, Migjorn, Sant Jaume d'Enveja, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona found on 30.7 remained in the area on 1.8 (Pau Campderrós, Josep Tantull, Roser Solé) and evening (Ricard Gutiérrez, Helena Arbonés). See a thumbnail here. Also seen on 2.8 (Josep Tantull, Roser Solé, Jana Marco).

(2) Tarragona . There was a 2nd adult at Punta de la Banya, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona (David Bigas). Moult stage of the adult was different from El Violí individual.

Buff-breasted Sandpiper Tryngites subruficollis (1-2)

(1-2) Tarragona . There were two adult birds at DACSA fields, Migjorn, Sant Jaume d'Enveja, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona on 25.8 afternoon (Josep Tantull, Roser Solé). See a photo below (J.Tantull).n These birds remained into September with different observers during the following days: 26.8 (Gorka Gorospe, Ainhoa Larzabal), 28.8 (Jordi Martí-Aledo), 29.8 (Eugeni Capella et al), 30.8 (Josep Tantull, Roser Solé, Javier Train, José Gómez Aparicio et al), 31.8 (Josep Tantull, Roser Solé, Matxalen Pauly, Albert Cama, Gabriel De Jesús, Pau Garcia, Quim Martínez, Nacho Castelao, Jordi Martí-Aledo, José Ramón Martín)

Hudsonian Whimbrel Numenius hudsonicus (1)
(1) Asturias . One was seen in flight within a migrant flock of N.phaeopus on 7.8 from Punta de la Vaca, Asturias (M.Quintana, Monchu F. Revuelta, Carmen Suárez Cuevas). If accepted might become a 2nd for Spain.

(1) A Coruña . One individual was seen on 11.8 at A Insua, Ponteceso, A Coruña (José Luís Rabuñal)

(1) Lanzarote. On 10.8 a bird was found at Ancones, Lanzarote, Canary Islands (Fran Montaño, Gema Montaño).

Red-necked Phalarope Phalaropus lobatus (1-2,3,4-5)
(1-2) Tarragona . There were two individuals at Punta de la Banya, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona on 2.8 (David Bigas). Presumably one of these remained there until 6.8 (Jordi Martí-Aledo). Not seen on 7.8

(3) Huelva . There was a bird on 8.8 at Isla Cristina, Huelva (Paco Chiclana)

(4-5) Cádiz. Two birds were seen on 8.8. at Salinas de Bonanza, Cádiz (Paco Chiclana in litt.)

(6) Tarragona . There was a juvenile at Punta de la Banya, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona on 30.8 (Jordi Martí-Aledo). It remained in the area on 31.8 (Jordi Martí-Aledo). See a photo below.

(7) Tarragona . Another juvenile was found in a non-restricted area within Delta de l'Ebre: a bird at ricefields near Punta del Fangar, Deltebre, Delta de l'Ebre on 30.8 (Javier Train). Seen later by many authors on 31.8 (Gabriel De Jesús, Pau Garcia, Quim Martínez; Albert Cama, Matxalen Pauly and others).See a thumbnail here (Javier Train).

Laughing Gull Larus atricilla (1)

(1) A Coruña . On 30.8 there was a juvenile moulting to 1w at Ensenada de A Insua, Ponteceso, A Coruña (José Luís Rabuñal Patiño). Present since 18.8 but properly seen on 30.8.

Baltic Gull Larus fuscus fuscus (1,2)

(1) Madrid . The 1st summer (2cy) seen last July the days 12,19 & 26.7.2013 at Pinto Dump, Madrid and that was ringed with a Swedish ring (8120021 Stockholm) was spotted again and photograped on 9 and 17.8. See a photo below (Javier Marchamalo)

(1-4) Almería . There were 4 on 14.8 at Playa de la Media Luna, Parque Natural de Cabo de Gata, Almería (Juan Pérez-Contreras)

(1-4) Cádiz . FOUR birds, presumably the family group recorded this season, was seen again in the Tarifa outskirts, Cádiz, on 2.8 (Emilia Jiménez). Record submitted to CR/SEO-BirdLife. Still present on 28.8 (Àlex Colorado, David Fernández, Lídia Arroyo).

Citrine Wagtail Motacilla citreola (1-2,3,4)
(1-2) Girona . There were an adult female (Àlex Ollé) and a juvenile (Àlex Ollé; Pau García, Eikel Delgado, David Ibáñez, Anna Bassolsat) at El Matà, PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà. Girona, on 23.8. See a photo below and two thumbnails here. The juvenile remained there on 24.8, when another (3) arrived to the area (Àlex Ollé, Miguel Ángel Lucena, Albert Campsolinas).

(3) Girona . A new juvenile reached El Matà, PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà. Girona, on 24.8, joining the juvenile seen the day before but not the adult female (Àlex Ollé, Albert Campsolinas, Miguel Ángel Lucena; Ponç Feliu). Still present on 25.8. (Àlex Ollé, Marc Gàlvez, Jorge García, Funoses brothers et al).See a photo below (Àlex Ollé). On 28.8 it was still seen (Àlex Ollé, Pau Calero) and it was relocated on 30.8 (Àlex Ollé).

(1) Alicante . There was one adult, apparently male, at Monnegre, Alicante, on 14.8 (Malcolm Palmer, Barry Chambers). This bird was relocated on 15.8 (Els Feuth and Stephan Cramer).

Hooded Crow Corvus cornix (1)
(1) A Coruña . There was a bird at A Frouxeira,Valdoviño, A Coruña on 3.8 (Xabi Prieto y Pablo Pita). Still present on 4.8 (David Calleja) and 5.8 (Antonio Martínez Pernas). (1) Girona. There was a juvenile at Amer, Girona, on 30.8 (Gabriel de Jesús).
