Blue-winged Teal Anas discors (1,2,3)
(1) Girona There was a drake on 1.5 at PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà, Girona (Àlex Ollé). See a photo below. This individual remained in the area until 4.5 at least: 2.5 (Pau García Campderròs, 3.5 (Ramón Aguilar et al and 4.5 (Manuel Caamaño; Josep Bosch et al

(2) León There was a drake on 17.5 at balsa de riego de Santa Cristina, Santa Cristina del Páramo, León (David Miguélez). See photos of the bird here (opens in another window).

Presumed hybrid Western Reef x Little Egret Egretta gularis x garzetta (1,2)
(1)Barcelona. The bird reported repeatedly from Can Dimoni, Sant Boi de Llobregat, Barcelona was seen again on 1.5 (Raúl Bastida) and on 3.5 (Manuel Caamaño). This individual was seen again on 16.5 at Filipines marsh, Viladecans, Delta del Llobregat, Barcelona (Armand Ramal, Ricard Gutiérrez, Mike O'Neil). See a record photo below (R.Gutiérrez)

(2) Zamora. The white bird showing dark feathers of 'gularis' type found on 20.4 at Villafáfila, R.N. Lagunas de Villafáfila, Zamora remained there on 1.5 when it was photographed (Manuel Rodríguez). See a photo below.

Lesser Flamingo Phoenicopterus minor (1-2)
(1-2) Cuenca. On 4.5 there were two at Laguna de Manjavacas, Cuenca (José Portillo, Álex Colorado).

Rüppell's Vulture Gyps rueppellii (1,2,3)
(1) Cádiz. On 2.5 a party of Polish birders saw an immature at Mirador del Estrecho, Tarifa, Cádiz. See two photos below and a thumbnail here (Jacek Wyrwal, Roman Kubacki, Antoni Marczewski, Tomasz Blaszczyk, Marcin Skawinski).

(2) Cádiz. On 20.5 an individual was at Los Barrios rubbish dump, Cadiz (Ian Wells).

Pallid Harrier Circus macrourus (1,2)
Zamora. The male arrived at Zamora on 13.4 remained at Vezdemarbán, Zamora on 1,5 (Alfonso Rodrigo) and 2.5 (Graciela Fernández, Manuel Carregal). This bird remained in the area on 5.5 (Alfonso Rodrigo, David Calleja).n This male was still in the area until early June. It might be breeding paired to a Montagu's Harrier Circus pygargus (Juan Sagardía, Alfonso Rodrigo).

(2) Cáceres. There was a male by the road EX-390 at Talaván, Cáceres on 12.5 (Thierry Fallet).

(1) Albacete. There was one over La Venta, Albacete, on 2.5 (Rafa Torralba)

American Golden Plover Pluvialis dominica (1,2)
(1) Tarragona. The bird found on 19.4 at El Goleró, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona was still present in early May: 1.5 (Àlex Mascarell, 2.5 (Manolo Sánchez Blanch, Àlex Mascarell, 3.5 Gorka Gorospe, Carolina García, Oriol Muntané, Ricard Gutiérrez et al) and 4.5 (Àlex Mascarell

(2) Zamora. There was a bird at Villafáfila lagoons, Zamora on 3.5 (Antonio Sandoval, Alfonso Rodrigo). See a thumbnail here.

(1) Sevilla. There was a bird at Brazo del Este, Sevilla, on 25.5 (Alberto Savijn, José Luís Anguita). See a photo below and two thumbnails here.

Pectoral Sandpiper Calidris melanotos (1,2-3)
(1) Valencia. There was a bird at recently flooded ricefields at El Morelló, Albalat de La Ribera (Bosco Dies).

(2-3) Tarragona. There were two at El Serrallo ricefields, Sant Jaume d'Enveja, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona, on 11.5. One of those had been seen already on 10.5 (Josep Tantull, Roser Solé). See a thumbnail here.

Broad-billed Sandpiper Limicola falcinellus (1,2)
(1) Valencia. On 4.5 a bird was found at R.N. Tancat de la Mília, l'Albufera de València (Pedro Marín/GOTUR). See a photo below, a thumbnail here and a video in his blog here.This individual was seen again at the same place on 7.5 (Pedro Marín/GOTUR).

Terek Sandpiper Xenus cinereus (1,2,3)
(1) Tarragona. On 9.5 one was present at Salines de Sant Antoni, Amposta, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona (Carles Oliver See a photo here.

(2) Tarragona. On 17.5 a bird was seen and photographed at Migjorn ricefields, Sant Jaume d'Enveja, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona (Josep Tantull, Roser Solé). See a thumbnail here. (1-2) Cádiz . On 10.5 two were seen at playa de los Lances, Tarifa, Cádiz (Gonzalo Muñoz)

n(3) Cádiz . On 31.5 there was an individual at Tarifa Island track, Tarifa, Cádiz (David Cuenca)

Elegant-like Tern Sterna cf elegans (1)
(1) Huelva . On 4.5 a bird was seen at punta de Malandar, playa de Doñana, Huelva (Álvaro Díaz).See two thumbnails here.

Garden Bulbul Pycnonotus barbatus (1-4)
(1-4) Cádiz . On 24.5 three were seen at Tarifa, Cádiz (David Cuenca, Álex Colorado). nOn 28.5 there were four in the same area (Javier Elorriaga).

Pacific Swift Apus pacificus (1)

Black-headed Yellow Wagtail Motacilla flava feldegg (1,2)
(1) Tarragona . On 3.5 two were reported from grassfields at Sant Jaume d'Enveja, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona (Quim Minoves One, new or perhaps one of the previous day birds remained on 4.5 (Quim Minoves).

(2) Girona . On 4.5 one was seen at Pineda fosca, Cassà de la Selva, Girona (Miguel Angel Fuentes

(1) Girona . On 1.5 there was a male at Pedret, Girona (Ramón Aguilar)

Hooded Crow Corvus cornix (1)
(1) Tarragona . On 6.5 an individual was seen by the marina at L'Ampolla, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona (Manolo Sánchez Blanch). There is a photo in rarebirdspain twitter here and a thumbnail from that here too. Probably this same individual was seen on 10.5 in different places of Llobregat Delta, Barcelona (Oriol Muntané, Albert Lozano, Pedro Bescós et al).

Such records should be submitted to Juan Antonio Lorenzo at canarias @** Canarian records of species which are rarities nationwide are included in the main text in violet type.*** Ringed birds in Spain have to be submitted and accepted by CR/SEO-BirdLife, according to Environment Ministery of Spain and the authonomous communities agreements, to be accepted as valid ringings in the national database. Otherwise, non submitted or rejected records will be deleted and ringings will not be included in national or international databases. Ringers not submitting rare bird ringings will be listed. Submitting ringing records is hence specially encouraged as a contribution to global bird knowledge..

From March 2005 this webpage only includes records of birds needing homologation by CR/SEO. For other local rarities contact local bird reports or records committees. See here those rarities only for the Canary Islands also dealt by CR/SEO. Changes in application to the rarity list from January 2006. New rarities include Sylvia curruca, Crex crex, Sterna bengalensis and others. Larus delawarensis and Anthus richardi have been withdrawn from the rarity list and are not be included from 2006.

Recent reports includes the latest sightings from the whole of Spain which are both personal observations, communications or have been released in E-Mail lists. Please contact the authors before using any photo for anything else than personal reference. Any submitted news to this page will be forwarded to the Spanish RC for their knowledge if enough substantiated but inclusion in this page does not imply acceptance or homologation of any kind which needs a form to be sent.Photos could be cropped for editorial reasons.Gibraltar news are included thanks to Gibraltar Ornithological & Natural History Society but this has no more implication than the sake of completeness given this area situation. Names of localities are featured as given by the authors of the records, that should be cited as those. Today news are marked with anew icon.
