Wilson's Storm Petrel* Oceanites oceanicus Three records. (1).On 2.8, a bird was seen 25 miles off Cabo Matxitxako, Bizkaia together with 4 Hydrobates pelagicus (Gorka Ocio)(2) On 26.8 there were 14 (6 in a single flock) 10 miles off Estaca de Bares, A Coruña, Galicia (D.Bigas, R.Moreno-Opo, P.Pita).(3) There were 2 10 miles off Estaca de Bares, Galicia on 20.8 (A.Sandoval)

Little Shearwater* Puffinus assimilis One records. (1).On 25.8, a bird was seen off Estaca de Bares, A Coruña, Galicia (D.Bigas, R.Moreno-Opo, P.Pita)

Great White Egret Egretta alba. At Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona, there were at least 8 birds at Buda islands on 13.8 (Julia Piccardo, R.Gutiérrez, E.Guinart).Another was at Doñana on 16.8, the first seen for three months (John Butler).On 21.8 there was one at maresma de les Filipines, delta del Llobregat, Barcelona (R.Ramos et al; R.Gutiérrez)

Presumed hybrid Western Reef x Little Egret* Egretta gularis x garzetta 2 records (1 through snail mail, ) (1)On 3.8 there was one at Desembocadura del Guadalhorce, Málaga (Andy Paterson, Nacho García, Antonio Miguel Pérez).Still there on 28.8 (Antonio Tamayo).(2). The pale grey bird seen at Ebre delta from 13.12.2002 to 21.5.2003 at least was seen again during July and early August entering in the heronry of El Clot, l'Encanyissada (David Bigas, Julia Piccardo, Antonio Sandoval & Ana). This record is already accepted by CR/SEO. See two photos of © Amadeo Molina taken on 22.12.2002 that were used in the process of homologation of this record.
Yellow-billed Stork*Mycteria ibis. (1, E category). On 14-16.8, a bird was seen at playa de Sotavento, at Casas del Risco, Fuerteventura (Oscar Llama). Editorial comment: As from CR/SEO member in the Canary Islands, this is the same bird which was considered to be an escape and that was seen and accepted some time ago.

Marabou* Leptoptilos crumeniferus. One record. (1). A bird was reported from vega del rio Palmones, Cádiz, on 21.8 (Paco Montoya/COCN)

Glossy Ibis Plegadis falcinellus. There were 350 at Isla Menor, Sevilla on 11.8 (Paco Chiclana).And there were over 550 (!!!) birds at Los Olivillos, Sevilla on 24.8 (Paco Chiclana)

Sacred Ibis* Threskiornis aethiopicus.Three records. (1 through snail mail, 2 ,3). (1) On 3.8 there was one at Desembocadura del Guadalhorce, Málaga (Andy Paterson, Nacho García, Antonio Miguel Pérez).Still there on 5.8. The bird was unringed (A.Paterson).Still there on 13.8 (A.Tamayo, Paco Chiclana) and 27.8 (A.Tamayo, JL Ramírez, F.Vásquez)(2).On 10.8 there was a bird at marisma de la Ramallosa, Nigrán, Pontevedra (César Vidal). This bird was seen again on 24.8 (Luis Enrique Senra) and photographed on 27.8 See a thumbnail here (3) On 21-27.8 there was a bird at Los Olivillos, Doñana, Sevilla (J.M.Reyes, J.Salcedo, A.Augusto; Paco Chiclana)

Caribbean Flamingo* Phoenicopterus [ruber] ruber. (1) The bird featured in this website last february and last june (see a photo there) was still at PN Delta de l'Ebre, at Punta de la Banya on 7.8 (David Bigas & Carles Domingo). 
Rüppell's Vulture* Gyps rueppellii (1)  The bird seen in May around the Straits of Gibraltar and brought to the Jerez Zoo and released with a radiotransmitter into the wild on 10.7 and lost by 30.7 was relocated on 21.8 near Cazalla area, Tarifa, Cádiz  where present the rest of the month (Paco Montoya/COCN). 

Ruddy Shelduck Tadorna ferruginea. There were 2 birds on 15.8 at embalse de Ulibarri-Gamboa, Araba/Álava seen from the Mendixur ornithological park (Xabier Remirez)On 21.8 there was a female at embalse de Santillana, Madrid (Gabriel Martín García).On 23.8 there was one at Azud de Riolobos, Salamanca (Juan Ruiz) and on 24.8 there were  2 at embalse de Santillana, Madrid (Juan Ruiz).

Mandarin Duck* Aix galericulata (1)  There was a female or juvenile bird of dubious behaviour (perhaps of captive origin) at desembocadura del Barranc de Carraixet, Alboraia, Valencia (Manuel Polo y Toni Polo)

Red-footed Falcon Falco vespertinus. On 5.8 a bird was seen from A7 motorway near the village of Bacarot, Alacant, and close to the exit of Alacant airport (Malcolm Palmer).There was one 2nd summer at Mendijur, Alava on 17-19.8 (José Luis Pina Jorge).There was a male, presumably moulting from 1st summer to 2nd winter, at the end of Ulibarri-Gamboa reservoir, Mendixur, Araba on 23.8 (Karmelo de Dios).

Spotted Crake Porzana porzana. A juvenile birds was seen at Cañada de la Rianzuela, Aznalcazar, Sevilla (Doñana area) on 16.8 (John Butler).

Crested Coot Fulica cristata. In PN Delta de l'Ebre counts give 10 birds: 2 collared and one without at Canal Vell lagoon, one collared at l'Encanyissada and 3 collared plus one uncollared at El Garxal area, where, besides, one of the collared birds was seen feeding two chicks by late july, being the first proven reproduction for the Ebre Delta and the 2nd for Catalonia (David
Bigas)There was a pair with 5 rather grown chicks on 3.08 at Marismas del Odiel, Huelva (Paco Chiclana).There were at least two: O3U and WC easily seen from Vidala lagoon, Llobregat delta at least until 22.8 (R.Gutiérrez).There was one at Desembocadura del Guadalhorce, Málaga from 19-27.8 at least, without neither PVC collar nor any metallic ring (Antonio Tamayo, Adriano Vásquez, JM Ramirez, F.Vásquez).

Dotterel Charadrius morinellus. Six birds, five adults and a juvenile were seen at Can Comes meadows, PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà, Girona on 17.8, a relatively early date according to the authors (T.Alonso, O.Clarabuch & J.Martí-Aledo).On 15.8 at least one bird was heard while flying over Monteagudo de las Vicarias, Soria (Marcel Gil, Juan Luis Hernández). On 17.8 the same happened near Garray, near Soria (Jesús Ruiz Rodrigo, Tico and Juan Luis Hernández). On 23.8 two birds were seen over monte Cayo, Huérteles, Soria at 1600 m high (J.Ruiz Rodrigo, J.L.Hernández).There was one adult at Gàllecs, Barcelona on 27.8 (Xesco Macià). On 27.8 there were 2 juveniles at Mar Menor, within El Carmolí protected area, Murcia (Antonio Fernández-Caro). The same day, there were 3 more at Prats de Can Comes, PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà,Girona (Jordi Martí Aledo). On 26.8 there had been four at Gàllecs, Barcelona (1 ad and 3 juveniles) (Xesco Macià, Xavier Larruy). On 26.8, a party of 13 were near Las Amoladeras de San José, Almería, most of them being adults (Santiago Villa Méndez). On 27.8 there were 3 (an adult, a juvenile and an indeterminated) at Reus airport, Tarragona (Arnau Bonan Barfull).On 30.8 there were 7 at can Comes meadows, PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà, Girona (one adult and six juveniles) (Jordi Martí Aledo, Teresa Montràs). Temminck's Stint Calidris temminckii. Late July sightings: on 24.7 there was an adult at la Quartera ricefields, Illa de Buda, PN Delta de l'Ebre (David Bigas, Raimundo Tomàs). On 1.8 there were 3 adults at the same site (David Bigas, Thomas Kuppel).On 11.4 there were 3 at Maresma de les Filipines, Llobregat delta (R.Gutiérrez). See a photo below and a thumbnail here. And on 14.4 there was still one there (R.Gutiérrez).On 16.8 there were 3 at arrozales de Isla Menor, Sevilla (Paco Chiclana).On 9.8 there was one at Txingudi, Gipuzkoa (Mikel Estonba).On 19.8 there was a juvenile at laguna de San Lorenzo, Plaiaundi, Irun, Gipuzkoa (David Calleja Marcos, M.A.López de Armentia).At Llobregat delta there were 8 mininum on 13.8 (Rafael Armada) plus 4+ on 15.8 (R.Armada). A bird was seen at Salobrar de Campos, Mallorca, Balearic islands on 21.8 and there were two (one ringed) on 22.8 (Lalo Ventoso)On 24.8 a juvenile was at estany d'Europa, PN Aiguamolls, Girona (J.Martí, X. del Acebo).Another, an adult,  was at Bassa del Fra Ramon, l'Estartit, Girona on 24.8 (Xavier Gàmez). Pectoral Sandpiper* Calidris melanotos (1, 2, 3, , 5, 6&7 through snail mail ).On 4.8, an adult bird was found at El Malvinar, Sueca, Albufera de València (Bosco Dies; J.I.Dies, A.Alcocer, A.Castelló). There are photos available in the Dies brothers website (opens in another window) and below. The bird was seen again on 5 august and relocated on 7-8.8 at Tancat de Zacarés, Sollana, l'Albufera de València (Bosco Dies) (2) On 16-18.8 there was a presumably juvenile at bassa de Fra Ramon, L'Estartit, Girona (X.Larruy, L.Puyol;Xavier Gàmez). See two thumbnails here and a photo © Xavier Gámez below) (3). OLn 26-27.8 there wqas a juvenile at El Petxinar, l'Albufera de València, València (Bosco Dies, J.I. Dies). See a thumbnail here and more photos in their website (link above)(4) On 31.8 there was a juvenile at PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà (Jordi Martí Aledo) seen at the Empuriabrava water-treatment plant. See thumbnails here (5) In the same field where the Broad-billed Sandpiper of the Ebre delta was still present on 30.8, it was found a juvenile (Sergi Sales, Oriol Clarabuch).(6&7) There were two birds at Traba lagoon, Laxe, A COruña, on 30.8 and one on 31.8 (José Luis Rabuñal, David Bigas, P.Gutiérrez, P.Pita, A.Sandoval, R.Moreno-Opo).

Broad-billed Sandpiper* Limicola falcinellus(1, 2 ). (1) Late july record . On 17.7, a 1st summer  bird was seen at Punta de la Banya, PN Delta de l'Ebre (David Bigas)New photopage on this sighting here(2) Probably another bird was seen on 22.8 at Riet Vell reserve, neat platja Eucaliptus, also at Ebre delta (Jamie Durrant)  and was still there on 28.8 (Oriol Clarabuch). Marsh Sandpiper  Tringa stagnatilis. There were 2 at maresma de les Filipines, RN Remolar-Filipines, Llobregat delta, on 1.8 (Ferran López).Late July sightings: from 24-25.7 there was an adult at la Quartera ricefields, Illa de Buda, PN Delta de l'Ebre (David Bigas, Delfín González). There were 2 adults at Tancada saltpans from 24-31.7 (David Bigas, Francesc Vidal, Thomas Kuppel) and 3 adults at El Garxal, also at PN Delta de l'Ebre, from 27.7 to 7.8 (David Bigas).

Red-necked Phalarope Phalaropus lobatus. Late july record of a rarity in the NE Spain Mediterranean. There were two adults, male and female at Salines de la Trinitat, Punta de la Banya, PN Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona on 25.7 (David Bigas, Delfín González).

Long Tailed Skua* Stercorarius longicaudus One records. (1).On 26.8, a bird was seen off Estaca de Bares, A Coruña, Galicia (P.Pita, D.Bigas).

Sabine's Gull Larus sabini. There were 7 10 miles off Estaca de Bares, A Coruña, Galicia on 27.8 (D.Bigas, R.Moreno-Opo, P.Pita). On 23.8 three birds (D.Bigas, A.Sandoval, P.Pita) and on 24.8 two more were seen all from Estaca de Bares itself, Galicia with 3 more 10 miles off the cape on 22.8, and two on 20.8 (A.Sandoval)

Lesser-Crested Tern Sterna bengalensis. New photopage here on the breeding birds reported may-july at PN Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona.On 21.8 there was a bird at Racó de l'Olla, l'Albufera de València. There are some photos in the Dies Brothers Mediterranean Wetlands website and you can see a thumbnail here (Bosco Dies).

Red-throated pipit Anthus cervinus. There was an adult bird at the end of Ulibarri-Gamboa reservoir, Mendixur, Araba on 23.8 (Karmelo de Dios).

Aquatic Warbler Acrocephalus paludicola.Rare away from traditional migration hotspots such as La Nava, Palencia. There were a juvenile plus one adult on 19.8 at Plaiaundi, Irun, Gipuzkoa (David Calleja, M.A.López de Armentia, A.Luengo, F.Calvo).There was one at Bengoa, Santoña marshes, Cantabria on 22.8 (Pablo Mazón, Fernando Arce).A juvenile was at Ria de la Villa, Asturies on 20.8(Clemente Álvarez Usategui)

Icterine warbler Hippolais icterina. An EURING 3 - bird was ringed at Canal Vell biological station, Parc Natural delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona on 17.8 (S.Sales, N.Rodríguez).On 27.8 ther was one at the Gavà pinewoods, Llobregat delta, Barcelona (Xavier Larruy).

Red-breasted Flycatcher* Ficedula parva(1) There was a 1st winter or female in an edge of the Ulibarri-Gamboa reservoir, Mendixur, Araba on 23.8 (Karmelo de Dios). The tail pattern was properly seen.
