Canada Goose* Branta canadensis (1)
(1) On 28.8 a bird was seen at Vilagudín reservoir, Ordes, A Coruña (Xurxo Pinheiro).


Wilson's Storm Petrel* Oceanites oceanicus (1)
(1) One bird was seen from Punta de la Vaca, Gozón, Asturies on 29.8 (Daniel López Velasco (83) 2 puntos)

Marabou* Leptoptilos crumeniferus (1)
(1) On 12.8 there was one bird at Corredor Verde del Guadiamar, Doñana, Aznalcázar, Sevilla (Iben Hove Sorensen, Jaume Soler i Cristian Jensen/Audouin Birding Tours) See two thumbnails here

Bald Ibis *Geronticus eremita (1).3rd for Spain. 
(1) The bird seen during April and May at Trujillo and Belén, Cáceres was seen again on 1.8 at Belén (Roger Tonnel) and on 3.8 (Vicenta Moreno, Pascual Labajo, Nereida Labajo, Álvaro Díaz). The bird was apparently in bad condition on 3.8. It seems that one leg is almost, if not, broken and it is behaving extremely tame (!)

Lesser Flamingo* Phoenicopterus minor (1)
(1) The two Lesser Flamingos found at Punta de la Banya, Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona by late July were still there the first ten days of August (David Biga et al) Still both (unringed adults) on 12.8 (Ricard Gutiérrez). See a photo below and thumbnails here.(Ricard Gutiérrez)

Pallid Harrier* Circus macrourus(1)
(1) On 8.8 this juvenile was seen at Pitillas lagoon, Navarra. It was photographed within a large group of Hen and Montagu's Harriers. Later in the evening, while looking at the pictures, the photographer realised it might be a Pallid. It was not seen again (Ricardo Rodríguez). See a photo below

Steppe Buzzard* Buteo buteo vulpinus (1)
(1) On 15.8 a bird was reported and photographed at Villargomil, Tapia, Asturies, near the river Porcía (Pablo Fernández(81) 2 puntos)

Semipalmated Sandpiper* Calidris pusilla (1)
(1) From 31.8 to 1.9 a juvenile remained at O'Grove, Pontevedra, Galicia (Cosme-Damian Romai(86) 2 puntos; J.R.Gómez, Samuel Paz, Xurxo Pinheiro). See photos in the September page.

Pectoral Sandpiper* Calidris melanotos (1,2)
(1) On 16.8 an adult was seen at river Llobregat, just below the bridge of the former C-245 at Sant Boi de LLobregat (Raul Bastida). Attempts of relocation were carried out the same evening and on 18.8 without success (R.Gutiérrez)
(2) On 29.8 a bird was seen at Ria de la Villa, Villaviciosa, Asturies (Adolfo Villaverde(84) 2 puntos)See a thumbnail here

Sharp-tailed Sandpiper* Calidris acuminata (1)
(1) SECOND FOR SPAIN. On 30.8 and after a Pectoral the day before, a juvenile was seen at El Cierron polder, ria de la Villa, Villaviciosa, Asturies (Adolfo Villaverde(88) 4 puntos)

Terek Sandpiper* Xenus cinereus (1,2)
(1) On 5.8 a bird was seen at Salinas de Cerrillo, Roquetas de Mar, Almería (Albert Cama, Matxalen Pauly)
(2) On 23.8 a bird was found at La Rogera lagoon, PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà, Girona (Jordi Martí-Aledo, Teresa Montràs82 (2 punts per cada observador))

Spotted Sandpiper* Actitis macularius (1)
(1) On 26.8 a breeding plumaged bird was seen at Salinas de Janubio, Lanzarote, Canary Islands (F.Javier García Vargas, Juan Sagardia). See a thumbnail here

Ring-billed Gull* Larus delawarensis (1,2,3)
(1) The bird seen previously in Castelló province, was relocated on 5.8 at Burriana harbour (José Bort) and on 9.8 at Castelló harbour (El Grau) (Miguel Tirado). Since late june, it has moulted almost all coverts, its eyes and legs have become paler and it has begun its primary feathers moult into its 2nd winter (Miguel Tirado). Interesting shot of the same bird on 16.August side by side of a juvenile Audouin's Gull Larus audouinii. Note the relatively similar head profile with perhaps a rounder crown in the audouinii (Miguel Tirado)

(2) A 1st summer/2nd winter birds was seen at Xunqueira del Lagares, Vigo, Pontevedra on 8.8 (César Vidal(11) 2 puntos). Note the differences in plumage with the Castelló bird (!).

(3) On 14, 18 and 19.8 a 2nd winter bird was seen at Tancada lagoon, Ebre delta, Tarragona (Josep Tantull, Roser Solé, Joan Gil). It is presumably the same bird seen until 13.6 in the same area. See a photo below -right bird- (Joan Gil)

Little Swift* Apus affinis (1)
(1) On 10.8 there were 2 near the Guadalquivir river mouth, Cadiz (Iben Hove Sorensen, Jaume Soler i Cristian Jensen/Audouin Birding Tours)

Citrine Wagtail* Motacilla citreola (1,2)
(1) A juvenile was seen at Desembocadura del Guadalhorce, Málaga on 10.8 (Samuel Peregrina). See a photo below

(2) A juvenile/1st winter was seen on 15.8 at La Rogera, PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà, Girona (Jordi Martí-Aledo 80 (2 punts), Francesc Kirchner). The bird was amongst a group of Yellow Wagtails and was greyer than the Malaga bird above.

Any submitted news to this page will be forwarded to the Spanish RC if enough substantiated but inclusion in this page does not imply acceptance or homologation of any kind. Gibraltar news are included thanks to Gibraltar Ornithological & Natural History Society but this has no more implication than the sake of completeness given this area situation. Names of localities are featured as given by the authors of the records, that should be cited as those. Today news are marked with .From 2004 on news on Pied Wagtail and Caspian Tern are no longer included except in case of major unusual concentrations. From April 2005 only news of rarities needing homologation by the Spanish Rarities Committee are included .(11) 2 puntos(1) 2 puntosicons are related to a new birding competition running in three areas of Spain during the year regarding rarity sightings.
