From March 2005 this webpage only includes records of birds needing homologation by CR/SEO. For other local rarities contact local bird reports or records committees. See here rarities only for the Canary Islands also dealt by CR/SEO. Changes in application to the rarity list from January 2006. New rarities include Sylvia curruca, Crex crex and others. Larus delawarensis and Anthus richardi have been withdrawn from the rarity list and will not be included from 2006.

(1) Asturies An adult was seen at Ria de Ribesella, Ribesella, Asturies on 13-14.4 (Francisco Vázquez López, Carlos Callejón, communicated by Gabriel Silva).

(1) Burgos A bird not showing any rings and flying well was seen at Villadiego, Burgos, on 13.4 (Alfonso Rodrigo).See three thumbnails here

Mandarin Duck* Aix galericulata (1)
(1) Valencia The drake seen from 27.1 to 19.2 at Barranco de Carraixet, Alboraia, Valencia was relocated again on 20 and 24.4 at the same gorge but now at Almàssera municipality (Rafa Muñoz). See a thumbnail here

Green-winged Teal* Anas carolinensis (1,2,3) 
(1) Zamora There was a drake at Villafáfila, Zamora, on 7.4 (Miguel Ángel García Matellanes). See a thumbnail here
(2) Gipuzkoa A drake was seen on 7.4 too at Plaiaundi, Txingudi, Gipuzkoa (Leire Beteta, José Antonio López Constante). In the same area there was a free-flying Aix sponsa drake.

(3) A Coruña A drake was present at river Anllóns mouth, Cabana de Bergantiños, A Coruña on 6-7.4 (Alexia del Rio).

(1) Barcelona A female was seen at Remolar-Filipines marsh, Llobregat Delta, Barcelona, on 6.4 (Raul Bastida).Seen again on 10.4 morning (P.Bescós) and afternoon (Ricard Gutiérrez, Lluís Gustamante, Xavier Sampere, Marcel Gil).See a photo below (Ricard Gutiérrez). The bird was still there on 14.4 (Antonio Rodríguez Sinovas; Pedro Bescós, Vittorio Pedrocchi, J.L.Copete et al).

Ring-necked Duck* Aythya collaris(1,2)
(1) Asturies A drake was seen at La Furta, Corvera, Asturies, on 9.4 (Clemente Alvarez Usategui).On 11.4 but not afterwards it was seen again (C.A.Usategui)
(2) Navarra On 16.4 a drake was found at Pitillas lagoon, Navarra (Javier Erdoziain, Miguel Ángel López de Armentia). Second record for the region.


Wilson's Storm Petrel* Oceanites oceanicus (1)
(1) Pontevedra  One bird was seen on the limit of the continental shelf off La Guarda, Pontevedra, on c.31.3.2007 (Salvador Garcia).

Pied-billed Grebe* Podilymbus podiceps(1)
(1) Asturies The bird that reached Ria de la Villa, Villaviciosa, Asturies, on 27.12.2006 has been relocated away from its first months resting area: on 3.4 was seen at San Andrés reservoir, Serín, Asturies (Nacho Vega).Still in the reservoir on 9.4 (Clemente A.Usategui, B.Busto, G.Gil).Still in the reservoir, close to a flooded willow forest area on 14.4 (Luis Mario Arce)Seen again and photographed in the same area on 17-18.4 (Grégory Lepoutre). See a thumbnailhere.The bird was seen again on 25.4 and it partially showed breeding plumage (Juan Bueno).Seen again on 29.4 displaying to a female Pochard (!!) (D.López Velasco) and into May.

(1) Sevilla A bird, probably the same seen at Codo de la Esparraguera, Trebujena, Cádiz, on 2006, was seen on 12.4 at Veta la Palma, Doñana Natural Park, La Puebla del Río, Sevilla (José Luís Arroyo). See a photo below and a thumbnail here

White Pelican* Pelecanus onocrotalus (1)
(1) Cáceres An adult was seen on 4.4. at Portaje reservoir, Cáceres (Juan Antonio García Jiménez). The bird had been intermitently reported in the area the last two months but it was identified by the author on 4.4. It behaves wild. See a photo below (J.A.García Jiménez).ESCAPE The bird was seen again on 22.4 when photographed out of the water. It showed a ring in its right tarsus (Miguel Muñoz, Francisco Ramirez). Lesser Flamingo* Phoenicopterus minor (1-2,3-6,7-10)
(1-2) Ciudad Real At Laguna de Camino de Villafranca, Alcázar de San Juan, Ciudad Real, there were two on 30.3-1.4 (Xurxo Pinheiro).On 5.4 both remained there (J.Ruiz, X.Pinheiro, S.Paz, J.C.Marín, C.M.Ventura, H.Gutiérrez) and on 7.4 too (X.Pinheiro) and only one bird later(José Luis Pérez, Fernando López, José Ramón, Gabriel Martín).See a photo below and a thumbnail here (G.Martín).The 3rd bird featured last month may have left the area (X.Pinheiro)

(3-6) Málaga On 5.3, 3 Lesser Flamingos were seen at Fuentedepiedra lagoon, Málaga. Two of them always together and the 3rd showing very agressive behaviour towards other Greater Flamingos P.roseus (Juan Bécares, Eli Miralles). (7-10) Málaga On 21.4 morning there were SEVEN at Fuentedepiedra lagoon, Málaga (Paco Chiclana, Manolo Villaécija). Presumably the three birds reported above plus four more. One of them was ON A NEST (see photo below) but if it had successfully bred or not could not be stated, despite one adult close to the chicks too. See photos below (Paco Chiclana). Pallid Harrier* Circus macrourus* (1,2,3,4,5-7,8,9,10)
(1) Toledo One adult male was reported on c.4.4 from 7 km S of the A-5 road (Madrid to Badajoz) c.135 km SW of Madrid (at Calera and Chozas), heading SE down towards Tajo river (Jimmy Steele).
(2) Illes Balears A female was seen and photographed at S'Albufera de Mallorca on 5.4 (Juan José Bazán)
(3) Sevilla On 2.4 a 2nd calendar year female was seen and photographed 6 km SE of Villamanrique de la Condesa, Sevilla (Eckerhard Bühring, Hannes Langbehn & Reinhard Gerken). See two thumbnails here
(4) Girona On 14.4 a male was seen at Closa del Puig, PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà, Girona (Amine Flitti)
(5-7) Girona On 15.4 three birds were seen: a 2nd cy and two females at least in their 3cy over Estanys del Matà, PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà, Girona (Luis José Salaverri, Ricardo Hevia, Àlex Ollé, Pere Serrano, Xesco Macià, Xavi del Acebo, Jordi Martí-Aledo).
(8) Girona On 16.4 a 3rd cy male was seen over Sant Pere Pescador beach, PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà, Girona (Jordi Martí-Aledo).
(9) Valencia A 3rd cy male was seen and photographe at Marjal de Pego-Oliva, València on 14.4 (José Llàcer).See a thumbnail here
(10) Illes Balears A 2nd cy bird was seen at Formentor cape on 21.4 (communicated by Maties Rebassa).

(1) Cádiz A bird was seen at La Janda, near Tarifa, Cádiz  on 6.4 (Yeray Seminario)

Sociable Lapwing* Vanellus gregarius (1)
(1) Sevilla An adult bird was seen on 5.4 5 km NW of the Centro de Visitantes J.A.Valverde of the PN Doñana. This bird was in a group of 25 Lapwings V.vanellus (Eckerhard Bühring, Hannes Langbehn & Reinhard Gerken). On 7.4 the bird was still there (Michael Rumberger, Guido Rastig, Eckerhard Bühring, Hannes Langbehn & Reinhard Gerken). See a thumbnail here. Editorial comment:This may well be the bird last seen in Doñana in early January 2007

(1) Barcelona One adult was seen on 23.4 afternoon at Ca l'Arana beach, El Prat de Llobregat, Barcelona (Xavier Larruy; D.Burgas et al). It remained on 26.4 morning (Ferran López, Sergi Bosch), see a photo below and afternoon (X.Larruy, A.McGeehan, B.Mactavish, R.Gutiérrez; A.Gamero et al).

(1) Barcelona One was seen on 19.4 at Ca l'Arana beach, El Prat de Llobregat, Barcelona (Xavier Larruy, Daniel Burgas; Ferran López) and on 20.4 (F.López) but not on 22.4 (X.Larruy, M.Gil). See a photo below (F.López) and a thumbnail here (X.Larruy).

(1) Asturies A 2nd summer bird was seen on 28.4 at Zeluan, Asturies (Juan Antonio García Fernández, Daniel López Velasco) and 29.4 (D.López Velasco).

Iceland Gull* Larus glaucoides (1)
(1) Cantabria On 25.4 a 2w was found at Pas river mouth, Miengo, Cantabria (Javier Portillo)

Glaucous Gull* Larus hyperboreus (1,2)
(1) Málaga The bird seen at Málaga harbour on 26.3 was still in the area on 1.4 (Ángel Fernando García, Ángel García). See two thumbnails here
(2) Asturies The 4th winter continued at Avilés harbour on 24.4 (Ignacio Menéndez Vega)and on 28-29.4 (D.López Velasco).

Lesser-crested Tern * Sterna bengalensis (1,2,3,4)
(1) Cantabria A bird was seen on 20.4 at river Pas mouth, Miengo, Cantabria (Javier Portillo). The bird was PVC ringed in its left leg and was wearing a metal ring on its right.
(2) Asturies On 19.4 a bird was seen within a Sandwich Tern flock at ria de Avilés, Asturies (Manuel Quintana Becerra). Later it was not relocated (perhaps the same bird (1) moving north?, ed. comment).
(3) Cádiz On 17.4 morning an adult was seen off Tarifa island, Cádiz within the Migres counts program schedule. It was flying E and it was seen for 15 minutes (David Cuenca, Andrés de la Cruz). 
(4) Barcelona One hybrid with Sandwich Tern was seen (only) on 23.4 morning at Ca l'Arana beach, El Prat de Llobregat, Barcelona (Ferran López). The bird had been ringed from known parents at Delta de l'Ebre, Tarragona, some time ago and carried two rings, including one yellow of pvc.See a photo below and a thumbnail here

(1) Valencia The same bird recalling Sterna elegans at Racó de l'Olla last year 2006 was seen at the same place on 14.4 (Toni Alcocer, Bosco Dies, Eva Elano). It seems the bird (4) depicted above (ed. comment)

Little Swift Apus affinis (1-3)
(1-3) Cádiz There were 3 birds at Guadalquivir river mouth, Cádiz on 14.4 (Pepe Ferrera, Manolo Villaécija, Rafa García, Paco Chiclana).

(1) Barcelona There was a male at the Besòs river mouth, Sant Adrià de Besòs, on 3.4 (Quique Carballal)
(2) Illes Balears On 20.4 a bird was seen at Pollença, Mallorca (Toni Muñoz)
(3) Castelló On 28.4 a bird was seen within a flava flava party at Cinctorres, Castelló (Toni Alcocer, Isabel Bischoping, Miguel Tirado, Vicente Estellés).

Moussier's Redstart Phoenicurus moussieri (1)
(1) Huelva On 8.4 a male was seen at El Acebuche information center, Doñana National Park, Huelva (Stefano Pirola, Marco Guerrini). A description is in due course to the CR/SEO-BirdLife.

(1) Illes Balears On 10.4 a bird was trapped and ringed at Cabrera island National Park, Illes Balears (Eduardo Amengual).

Siberian Chiffchaff* Phylloscopus collybita tristis (1,2)
(1) Illes Balears A bird was seen and heard from 16-20.4 at S'Albufera de Mallorca, Illes Balears (Maties Rebassa).
(2) Illes Balears A second bird was seen, photographed and its song recorded on 20.4 (Sebastià Torrents, Maties Rebassa).

(1) Illes Balears On 13.4 a bird was seen and photographed close to the S'Albufera de Muro Natural Park information center, Mallorca (Phillip Grabb)

Pied Crow* Corvus albus (1)
(1) Pontevedra The bird present since 4.7.2006 at A Laxe de Rons area, O Grove/Ogrobe, Pontevedra, Galicia was still around on 1.4 (Cosme Damián Romai)On 14-16.4 it was seen presumably paired to a Carrion Crow Corvus corone and carrying a branch when entering to an Eucaliptus tree at A Laxe de Rons area. Two nests under construction were detected in the area and could belong to this mixed pair corone x albus (Cosme D.Romai; S.Paz).

(1) Girona The bird seen on January and February 2007 at La Gallinera ricefields, PN Aiguamolls de l'Empordà, Girona remained in the Empordà plain in early April when it was seen carrying branches together with a Carrion Crow C.corone corone, suggesting mixed pairing (Albert Burgas)

(1) Barcelona The 1w seen on 12.2 at Cal Roc, Llobregat Delta and probably overwintering there was seen again on 25.4 at nearby area of Cal Tet (Anna Gamero)

Gibraltar news are included thanks to Gibraltar Ornithological & Natural History Society but this has no more implication than the sake of completeness given this area situation. Names of localities are featured as given by the authors of the records, that should be cited as those. Today news are marked with a  icon.
